Los Azufres...Michoacan

We took a day trip and touched three different states, Queretaro, Guanajuato and Michoacan. We went to Jorge´s childhood town, then drove up into the mountains where there is a forest, hot springs, lakes and mud volcanoes. It was a beautiful day of enjoying God´s creation and the quiet of the countryside!

We were blessed with this car when we were in Ensenada and now we are happy that we could give it to Jorge´s family. This is Jorge and I with my mom and Jorge´s dad on our day trip.

This photo was taken about 30 minutes outside of the town where Jorge was born.

Laguna Larga is found in the mountains of Michoacan.

A street in the town of Ucareo, just on the outside of the entrance to Los Azufres, where there are natural hot springs.

These donkeys were following us down a dirt road through the countryside.

They were carrying an electric saw for their owner.

The hot springs and geisers are used to produce electricity.

In the forest there are campgrounds with pools formed by the natural hot springs.

San Miguel de Allende

We took my mom and Jorge´s dad to San Miguel de Allende, a quaint colonial town about an hour away from Queretaro. It was originally founded in 1542...a looooong time ago! It has some really cool winding streets and we went walking all around until we made our way to the town plaza.

A Day At The Park...

Today we took my mom to a beautiful park called ¨Cerro de las Campanas¨ (Hill of the Bells). It is called this because some of the rocks in the park are composed of a mixture of metals that make them sound like bells when you hit them. This park is also the site where in 1867 the Austrian Emperor Maximiliano and his two Generals were executed and the triumph was sealed for the Republic of Mexico as a sovereign nation.

Happy Birthday Mom!

My mom is here in Queretaro for a 10 day visit! We celebrated her birthday on October 19th. Here we sing ¨Las Mañanitas¨, Mexico´s version of ¨Happy Birthday.¨

Make a wish!

¨La Mordida¨...A Mexican B-Day Tradition!

¨La Mordida¨ is a Mexican birthday tradition where the birthday girl or boy has to try to quickly take a bite out of the cake before all his friends smash his face in the cake! Rarely do you get by without looking like this...
