Snowed In!

Jorge and I returned to North Carolina a few days ago and what a surprise to find ourselves in the middle of one of the biggest snow storms NC has had in a very long time!!  We arrived on Sunday and Wednesday afternoon the snow started to fall and it kept going until Thursday afternoon!  What a thrill it was for us to enjoy the BEAUTY of the snow falling and the FUN of playing in it!!  What a blessing it was that we arrived to NC 3 days BEFORE the storm arrived because as a result of the storm, thousands of flights were cancelled!  What a bummer it would have been to have gotten stuck on the other end!!

Sorry for the lack of subtitles on the video but Jorge is just sending a special greeting to our friends in Colombia.

Clinic Dedication Video

This is a video that we showed at our clinic dedication ceremony that shows the 11+ year construction process all the way from the very beginning when we were clearing the land.  Many, many people labored and gave and prayed to make this a reality.  We give thanks and glory to God for all that He has done to bring us to this point and we trust that He will continue to do the impossible to make this place a blessing for the island communities of Tierra Bomba.

Believing vs. Knowing

What if we treated the people in our lives the same way we treat God?

Goodbye Luchito

Luchito from Karen W. Silva on Vimeo.

Well, I am very sad to share the news that Luchito didn't make it.  He was doing so well and showing improvement every day!  It was so fun to have this little guy with us and to take care of him each day!  After bottle feeding him every 3 hours for 2 weeks, I am really feeling his absence!  I'm not really sure what happened to bring him back down again but it seems that he had some kind of a respiratory issue at the end and it did him in.  The day he died (April 2), in the morning, I had a bad feeling that he might not make it.  He was listless again and refused to eat.  Jorge and I had to go out for dinner that night with some friends and I remember saying to God that I didn't want to leave him because I was afraid he would die and I didn't want him to die alone.  That afternoon I just held him a lot and tried my best to help him.  He was suffering...it was hard to watch!  Then at 5:20 pm as I was holding him and searching the internet about his symptoms to try to figure out what to do I felt him pee on me and looked down and realized he was gone.  Jorge and I buried him in the back yard.  We miss him!

Town Meeting

Last week my neighbor and I went to the Turbaco town meeting.  There is a new highway that has been under construction between Turbaco and Cartagena for over a year now.  The road is far from being finished but there is one thing that is almost ready...a new toll booth, right in the middle of the city limits!  You can imagine that this has caused a bit of an uproar among us Turbaco residents!  So the town meeting was organized to discuss this new highway and the toll booth!  The meeting was held to give the residents the opportunity to voice their opinion although no decisions will be made for another week or so (or so they say.)  I made this short video set to the music of the Colombian National Anthem to give you a peek at life in Turbaco!

More Mamita Memories

Recuerdos de Mi Suegra/Memories of my Mother-in-Law from Karen W. Silva on Vimeo.

On July 7, 2010 at 5:20 in the afternoon, my mother-in-law, Consuelo Sierra Maldonado, went to her Heavenly home to start a new stage of her life. Now she is with the Lord and I´m sure that she is enjoying being with Him and is full of joy as she discovers all the wonders that God had prepared for her there. I look forward to the day when I will see her again, there in Heaven! This short video is a compilation of memories from her time here on earth. I love her and miss her so much!
