This week in Bocachica...

This week we hosted a team of University students from Matthew´s United Methodist Church from the Charlotte, NC area. They were a great group with great attitudes and lots of energy! There were 22 people on the team and we had pretty much every bed full this week. They did 3 letrines, 2 floors, made concrete blocks for us to use for clinic construction and made lots of friends in the process!

Building a latrine for Mariluz and her three children.

John and Cameron Riordan visited us for 2 days from Virginia. They joined in on the activities with the Charlotte team and were a blessing to us as well! Thanks for the jalapeños, peanut butter and printer cartridges, guys! :)

Do you think our sign is old enough?! It´s about time for us to make a new one. Jorge made this one so many years ago that I can´t even remember how long ago it was! One clue is that this isn´t even the YWAM logo anymore! This logo was replaced nearly 9 years ago, in September of 1999!

Jorge hosted a few pastors from near Isla Fuerte so that they could get to know us a little better and see what we have been doing in Bocachica. Our YWAM Colombia national director, Markus Buser came out to join us for the day as well.

We had triplets! ...and other Misc. Stuff...

Yesterday Jorge went out to the back yard to pick some oranges to make juice and he found these little cutie pies wandering around! We can see that Lupita and Pepe, mom and dad turtle have been busy! :)

Our Mango trees are FULL!!

This pretty red wild flower just popped up in our back yard the other day!

Happy Birthday Marley!

Two weeks ago Marley turned 23! This is her 5th birthday since joining Proyecto Libertad when she was just 19 years old! Marley is presently studying Accounting full-time at a University in Cartagena and working part-time on Proyecto Libertad´s bookkeeping.

Karoline...Auf Wiedersehen, das Lebewohl

Early morning Goodbye as Karoline leaves Proyecto Libertad. Karoline (beside me with the pink bandana)was with us for 6 months working with Plan Padrino (Child Sponsorship) and Children´s Bible Club. It was great having her and we will miss her as she returns home to Germany!

New Photos from Isla Fuerte

The last couple of weeks we have had 4 of our staff in Isla Fuerte. Samy and Werling along with new additions, Josefina and Jennifer. At this point things are kind of slow out there and our main goal is to make relationships and find out what the needs are in the community and investigate ways that we can work together in the future to help meet those needs. Jorge is going to visit again tomorrow and he will be there for 2 nights and then he will bring Josefina and Jennifer back to Bocachica.
This is the house that we rented. We have a year contract here.

Child Sponsorship Parent´s Meeting

We had a Psychologist come to lead a meeting with the parents of the kid´s in our child sponsorship program. She did a talk about different types of abuse that are present in families. We will follow-up with more meetings next month that will go more in-depth into this issue.
A team-work/problem solving activity.

The parents had to break up into smaller groups and each was given a type of abuse that they had to act out and explain to the rest of the group.

Some mother´s decide how make their presentation to the rest of the group.

YWAM Denver DTS Outreach Team in Bocachica

Last week we hosted a DTS outreach team from the YWAM base in Denver, CO. They were with us for 11 days and made a latrine and a couple of floors for local families, made cement blocks for the clinic construction, helped clean our feeding center kitchen getting it ready for service and also did drama and testimony presentations at the schools and churches and with the elderly.

Two of the team members, Promise and Nabel, were our first ever visitors representing Nepal and Ethiopia, respectively.
