In Queretaro

After a 3 day road trip we arrived to Queretaro on Aug.31 around 9 pm. We stopped for a day in Nuevo Laredo and picked up one of Jorge´s sister and brought her down with us. Queretaro is in the center of Mexico, about 2 hours north of Mexico City.

It was somewhat of a shock to see Jorge's mom the first time because she looked so thin and frail. Now we've kind of gotten used to it but that first day it took us by surprise. She is bedridden now and in a lot of pain all the time. But despite all that she is in good spirits and very talkative. This weekend was her 78th birthday and we had a lot of family come in from out-of-town to visit her. One night there were 20 people staying overnight in this tiny house. Lot´s of noise and laughter in the house. Mamita thrives on having lots of people around her though so she has really enjoyed the last few days. She is ever the servant and there from her bed she´s wanting to make sure that everyone has eaten and has everything they need. I don´t think I´ve ever met anyone in my life as humble and servant hearted as she is!! I was thinking the other day that I wish I could be more like her in that way...

Most of the visitors have left by now and the last few are leaving tomorrow. Most of them are Jorge´s brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. After tomorrow the house will be a bit quieter with just a handful of us left.

When we told Mamita that we were going to spend the rest of the year here with her and the rest of the family she was sooooo happy!! The last few years we have only been able to visit for short times so she was excited to know that we aren´t in any hurry this time around.
